What's the difference between smart folder and regular folder?

The Smart folder is a kind of folder with special features. Unlike regular folders, the smart folder will filter all images in Eagle according to the conditions you provide, and collect pictures that meet these conditions automatically. once the conditions are set, the smart folder will also filter images afterwards, so you won't have to update the folder manually.

With this feature, we can sort images way more efficiently, let's try out!

Create a smart folder

  1. Find the "+" button left to the "smart folder" tab on the sidebar.
  2. Enter the smart folder name and filter conditions in the popup window.
  3. Click "Create Folder" to finish

After the smart folder is created, Eagle will show images that meet the conditions you specified. As shown at the following sample:

Usage scenario

You can set multiple combinations of conditions in the smart folder. The conditions can be either AND or OR. AND means all conditions must be met, and OR means any condition is met. The following are descriptions of the types of filter conditions.

  • Creation time
Filter images by create time. e.g.: "Images saved yesterday", "Images saved from 2017-07-01 to 2017-07-15", "Images saved in 2016".
  • Color
Filter images by color. you can switch between the  "almost the same" or "similar" color filters to your needs.
  • Keyword
Filter images by name. Available conditions include:  "include", "not included", "begin with""end with""completely equal". The default is "include", you can find images of which their name includes the keyword you designated.
  • URL
Filter images by source URL. Usually, the image downloaded with   "Browser Extension" will include the source URL automatically. For real-world examples, you can create folders like: "My images in Dribble", "Pinterest favorite images".
  • Width, Height
Filter images by size. The width and height can be "equal""less than""greater than", or "custom range". it can be used like "iPhone screenshot""webpage screenshot""HD background image".
  • Type
Filter images by file extension, you can quickly filter out a certain format of images. For example, you can create smart folders like:   "GIF animation", "PSD files". This is normally used combined with other conditions.
  • Tags
Filter images by tag. Filtering multiple tags is also possible. With this condition, you can create folders like "Adorable", "Banners".

We have listed various conditions above, now we can combine these conditions to fit our needs. Let's say we want to make a quick category of "Red", "Banners", we can set our filter conditions using "color" and "tags"

There are still many ways to use this function, don't be shy to share yours!
